Summary of Radiological Stormwater Modeling Research

Citation:

Mikelonis, A. Summary of Radiological Stormwater Modeling Research. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/S-22/124, 2023.

Impact/Purpose:

This summary document is an overview of HRSP radiological stormwater modeling intended to be content for a webpage update to the fate and transport research area page. The publications summarized in the document are intended for stormwater utilities, emergency responders, and emergency planners.

Description:

EPA’s Homeland Security Research Program (HSRP) within the Office of Research and Development conducts research to aid in the response and recovery from radiological disasters. EPA is leading stormwater modeling studies that investigate how to simulate transport of radiological contamination in urban stormwater. This has resulted in several publications and an active research portfolio described in this summary. Together the ongoing body of work can be leveraged to make more informed decisions after a radiological disaster.
